It’s been well said, by many people, that you’re entitled to your own opinion but not to your own facts. That’s why net-zero, as an issue, is very different to Brexit. Different opinions on Brexit are legitimate as there is no “right” answer. It entirely depends upon your particular priorities whether you think it was a good idea or a bad idea. Net zero is very different. Net zero is not optional. The need to get there at some point is beyond debate.
That’s why it’s risky to nail your political colours to being against net-zero. It’ll destroy your credibility as it becomes more and more obvious that urgent action really is necessary.

It reminds me of the Roman Catholic church continuing to ban Copernicus’s book, on whether the Earth or the Sun lay at the centre of the Solar System, for centuries after everyone else accepted that Copernicus was correct. It made them look both stubborn and ignorant.
